Banesco USA awards scholarships to students from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus

San Juan, Puerto Rico (February 3, 2025) – Banesco USA today announced a $9,000 donation to the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (UPRM). These funds will provide five deserving students from the Project Management Student Association (PMSA) with scholarships to participate in a transformative leadership program.

This investment underscores Banesco’s commitment to empowering the next generation of Puerto Rican leaders. With many public and private projects on the horizon, the island needs skilled project managers and change agents to ensure its successful transformation.

“We believe in the power of education and leadership to drive positive change,” said Maritza Abadía, president of Banesco USA in Puerto Rico. “These scholarships represent an investment in Puerto Rico’s future, equipping these bright students with the tools they need to lead and make a lasting impact.”

“The scholarship recipients will embark on a rigorous 7-month program based on internationally recognized methodologies, tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities facing Puerto Rico. Through this experience, they will earn up to five professional certifications in critical areas such as project management, program management, and change management. Upon completion of the program, they will receive the Certified Project Leadership Professional™ (CPLP),™ a professional certificate issued by the Continuing Education and Business Services Unit of the College of Business Administration (EDUCON-ADEM) of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (UPRM) and TEAM 1144”, explained Nesty Delgado, President of TEAM 1144.

“At the Project Management & Transformational Leadership Institute™ (PMTL Institute™), we are passionate about helping professionals and entrepreneurs become impactful leaders who transform their teams and contribute to take their organizations to the next level.
